Although many facts are revealed about a land that is little understood by the Western world, none of these three books propose to be a history of Saudi Arabia, or to reflect the lives of all women who live there. Additionally, the third and last book in the trilogy is titled Princess Sultana’s Circle. While readers are encouraged to read the first book about Sultana, Princess Sultana’s Daughters is a story in itself and can be read on its own. This book is the continuing story of Princess Sultana, her daughters, and other Saudi Arabian women they personally know. An earlier book, Princess: A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia (first published in 1992, and due to its popularity, re-released in a new edition in 2003) set the stage for this work by depicting the life of Princess Sultana from early childhood to the Gulf War of 1991. In telling this true story it is not the intention of the author nor of the princess to demean the rich and meaningful Islamic faith. Names have been changed and various events slightly altered to protect the safety of recognizable individuals. INTRODUCTION Princess Sultana’s Daughters is a true story.

They specifically tracked one member, Momodu Gondo, who was believed to be working with drug dealers and possibly helping them circumvent drug charges. In 2015, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) started investigating the unit. Instead of getting rid of crime, police officers in the GTTF engaged in it, against the communities they were supposed to serve. The miniseries, co-created by The Wire‘s David Simon and George Pelecanos, follows a special unit, known as the Gun Trace Task Force (GTTF), which was assembled in 2007 to remove guns and violent criminals from the streets of Baltimore. Adapted from former Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton’s 2021 book We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops, and Corruption, the show chronicles the rise and fall of one of the most shocking instances of police corruption in Baltimore’s history. We Own This City, an HBO Max miniseries out April 25, about a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) task force unit that went rogue, highlights some of the biggest concerns with modern policing in America. Therefore, sticky ideas must be concrete and realistic. Most people aren’t comfortable with doing most of their thinking in the abstract realm. Unexpected concepts and ideas can be shocking or simply clever takes on familiar ideas that look at an issue in a new way. That is to say, a sticky idea will be novel and attention-grabbing, as things we are already aware of or comfortable with are simply not that interesting to our brains. The next major aspect is that an idea must be unexpected. Simplicity does not refer to the length or breadth of an idea, but most great ideas have a core element that can be easily understood and which the concept can be boiled down to if needed. The vast majority of sticky or interesting ideas are not necessarily complex or difficult for the average person to understand. The first major sticky quality is simplicity. These core qualities can be summarized by an acronym: Simple Unexpected Concrete Credible Emotional Stories, or SUCCES. A 3 Minute Summary of the 15 Core LessonsĬhip and Dan Heath propose that there are six core qualities or aspects that make ideas and concepts sticky or more likely to remain in the public consciousness than others. This book explores why certain ideas or concepts are more interesting and “sticky” to society than others. Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die is a 2007 book written by brothers Dan and Chip Heath. By 1988 she had moved again to Walnut Creek, California. Venable married at 18 and moved to Dallas, Texas. "Someone once asked me, 'Why do you write these things? Why do you like to scare yourself?'" she told a reporter in 2012. Other stories by Venable include "Homesick" ( Galaxy Science Fiction Magazine 1952), "Punishment Fit the Crime" ( Other Worlds 1953), "The Missing Room" ( Weird Tales 1953), "Doppelganger" ( Mystic Magazine 1954), "Parry's Paradox" ( Authentic Science Fiction 1955), and "Grove of the Unborn" ( Fantastic Universe 1957). The story is frequently anthologized and discussed by scholars, who note that it was published in the same year as Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 and includes similar themes about reading and books. Venable's short story " Time Enough at Last" ( If Magazine 1953) was adapted for television as an episode of The Twilight Zone in 1959, starring Burgess Meredith.
